NetKeep

You're working at Starbucks, an airport, a hotel lobby. You stop typing for a few minutes and the WiFi quietly disconnects you. NetKeep sends a tiny, constant trickle of real traffic so the network's idle timer never reaches zero. The connection stays warm, so it stays up. Featherweight: a ~30 line shell script scheduled by macOS's built-in launchd. No app, no Node, no Python install, no account, near zero CPU.

Launch in browser - no install

Click start and this page keeps your connection awake for you - it sends a tiny ping every 20 seconds straight from your browser. Works on any device (Mac, Windows, phone) for as long as you leave this tab open. Nothing is installed. Close the tab and it stops.

Idle 0 pings · not started
!
This browser version keeps you alive only while the tab is open. For an always-on version that survives reboots and runs in the background, use the download above (macOS).

Download & run

  1. Download
Grab netkeep.zip below and double-click to unzip it. You'll get a netkeep folder.
  2. Open the one-click panel
Inside the folder, double-click NetKeep.command. A page opens in your browser with a single big button.
  3. Click Activate
The button turns green ACTIVE. That's it - your WiFi will now stay alive on idle. Click again any time to Deactivate.
  4. Prefer Terminal?
Run ./install.sh in the folder (or ./install.sh 15 for a faster heartbeat). Remove it with ./uninstall.sh.
!
If a security prompt appears the first time you open NetKeep.command, right-click it and choose Open, then confirm. macOS only for now.
